When I was in Cape May, New Jersey, David and Katherine’s moms reached out to me and booked me as their kids’ local Big Sur photographer for a sweet surprise proposal. It was such a thoughtful gift on their part! I love when friends/family come together to help launch occasions like this! David and Kat are originally from southern Florida and came here on vacation. The two of them have always fallen in love with coastal cities and the Big Sur area just became part of that list! Read on for more!
How Did You Two Meet?
“We met in middle school and started dating our senior year of high school up through college, and now here we are! I love that she is adventurous, loving, smart, funny, and so much more. Kat ALWAYS is making me laugh, she has a great personality and is so witty. Honestly, these words don’t do her justice, she is one of the funniest people I know. Kat is my best friend, and soul mate. Over the years it has been a combination of things that made me know that I wanted to marry her. I believe that we have found something in each other that people search a lifetime for.” – David
It’s so amazing to me when couples have known each other as early back as high school and middle school. I feel like that in and of itself is a time capsule of all these different eras in a couple’s life! Being David and Kat’s Big Sur photographer for their surprise proposal was awesome. Their energy is super playful and fun!
When Did You Decide You Were Going To Propose?
“I have known for a long time that I wanted to purpose to Kat. When she was getting her doctorate, we had to do long distance for about three years. I knew that I wanted to purpose afterwards, then COVID hit. Now that things are getting better, (knock on wood) I think this is the perfect time. I’m assuming Kat will be shocked, excited… maybe she’ll even cry! I don’t think she is expecting this at all. After this weekend, the Big Sur area will have a special place in both of our hearts.” – David
Bixby Bridge Surprise Proposal In Big Sur
David proposed to Kat on the coastline so they could see Bixby Bridge. And of course, I HAD to give them a private little tour of Big Sur myself too! Perks of having a local Big Sur photographer, right? For my newcomers to this part of California, I’m your boots on the ground! Bixby Bridge is such a stunning location with sweeping views of the water and sky. No wonder it’s the best spot on Highway 1 coastline!
David’s brothers helped with his proposal to Kat too and it was really touching seeing them come together and lend a hand! We had our champagne and blanket set up (a Big Sur photographer classic!) in one of the coves and it was just the BEST. Kat was SO shocked and surprised, just like David had hoped. I loved the round solitaire ring he picked out for her- so timeless and classy!
