Carmel Valley’s Folktale Winery and Vineyards is a local wedding photographer’s dream venue. The ambiance is light and airy; it makes each person that walks the grounds feel as if they are in a fairy tale. There are hidden spots with versatile backgrounds and dynamic imagery. I simply love photographing here!
Venue Vibes: Folktale Winery and Vineyards
Walking towards the front door of the property feels like a real life fairy tale. The white Chateau with dark brown wood trimming catches your eye as you wander towards the entrance. Green rows of vines mark each step towards the wooden double doors. Passing through them brings you to the beautiful lobby and rustic tasting room.
Light fills the room through the cathedral window and casts shadows on the brown leather couches. A wall of built in bookcases filled with their notable wines is to the right. The high ceilings evoke a sense of wonder and warmth.
About Folktale
Just five miles from the California coast, Folktale Winery and Vineyards has fifteen acres of organically farmed vineyards with a vineyard house on property nestled within the vines. The winery is surrounded by the breathtaking Santa Lucia Mountains. The location of the winery makes it easily accessible for multi-city events in Carmel-by-the-sea or Big Sur. Being local to both Carmel-by-the-sea and Big Sur as a wedding photographer, Folktale Winery and Vineyards just can’t be beat!
For weddings, they offer full property buyouts, which would include the Wine Garden and Chateau, Rose Vineyard, and the Barrel Room.
For the wine enthusiast bride, it’s worth noting that Folktale winery is a “Grape to Glass” facility. They are the only working winery in Monterey since most tasting rooms have facilities that are in Soledad. Grapes are grown, bottled, and fermented onsite. Through hand picked fruit, Folktale produces small batch, high quality wines. (Fun fact: they also produce “pet-nat” wines for those who enjoy smaller and more experimental wines!)
Interview
How many event spaces does our venue hold?
Folktale Winery has seven unique event venues.
Why is the maximum capacity for a wedding at Folktale Winery?
We can host weddings of up to 300 guests.
What is the most unique wedding experience on property so far?
Each wedding has been a unique experience thus far, which is one of our favorite things about Folktale! We have yet to have two weddings that were alike. The most unique wedding of them all would be a recent wedding where the couple personalized everything from t-shirts for the staff to wear all the way to their cocktail napkins and banners that hung in the barrel room. The couple made sure their wedding was unique to them and fun for each of their guests.
What are you hoping to see future brides do more of?
We hope to see more brides with exclusive looks and personalized touches for their weddings. When a bride utilizes our vendors to the fullest and is able to completely embody themselves as a couple in their wedding, it makes for a truly on-of-a-kind event.
What bridal trend have you witnessed that you think should stay?
We love to see when a couple changes up the bridal party! Whether the bridesmaids have different color dresses or prints or styles and when there are men and women on both sides of the bridal party, we love it all. Seeing the personality of the couple, as well as their friends and family is fun for us just as it is for them.
Is there something you’d love for brides to know about your venue that you want to promote?
Folktale has a truly incredible culinary team lead by our Director of Culinary Chef Todd Fisher and Executive Chef de Cuisine Danny Leach. Through the years they have perfected their craft and brought not only a unique culinary experience to Folktale, but are always changing things up.
Thank you, Folktale!
