Some love stories take time, but others just click. For instance, for Josh and Tasha, it all started with a dating app and a swipe that changed everything. Right from their very first week of talking, Josh knew this connection was different. “Honestly, I knew within the first week,” he said with a smile. Truly, we love a man with conviction! That’s why, as their Asilomar Beach Proposal Photographer, capturing the beginning of this next chapter felt as meaningful as their love itself.

Now, fast forward a year, and their relationship has become a beautiful blend of laughter, understanding, and the kind of inside jokes only two people who truly get each other can share. When asked about their love, Josh said, “I love how I can be my true self with her. She truly understands who I am.” We both can be so silly together. We have the same sense of humor.”

That mix of genuine connection and shared laughter is what makes these two so special and why telling their story was such an incredible honor.

A Love You Just Know
From the very beginning, Josh felt it in his heart. Tasha wasn’t just someone he loved, she was home. It’s rare to find something so sure, so fast, and yet with these two, it just fits.

Their relationship is built on care, trust, and that steady sense of partnership. Josh says his love language is simple, “I love taking care of her and being her support.” Add in their shared love of adventure from weekends in the mountains of Tahoe to afternoons by the ocean, and you’ve got a duo who feels most alive when they’re exploring together.

Planning the Perfect Surprise Proposal

By January, Josh was sure. (Honestly, he’d probably been sure since week one, but January made it official.) It was time to plan the proposal! He wanted something meaningful, sentimental, and just a little surprising.

Choosing a Location with Heart
He knew the moment had to happen somewhere special. That’s when he chose a quiet stretch of beach along Sunset Drive and Arena Avenue in Pacific Grove. A place close to Asilomar Beach and even closer to Tasha’s heart. It’s where she spread the ashes of her grandmother and aunt. Two women who helped shape her into the person she is today.

Though Josh had never been to Monterey before, he wanted to honor that space and its significance. He said, “I wanted to surprise her at a beach that’s special to her family. I’ve never been there myself, but I know what it means to her and I wanted to honor that.”

If that doesn’t make you tear up a little, check your pulse.
As their Asilomar Beach proposal photographer, I knew this moment would be filled with emotion. Indeed, capturing every tear, smile, and wave crashing behind them felt like bottling pure magic.
The Proposal at Asilomar Beach
With dinner reservations waiting at Anton & Michel in Carmel for 6:30 PM, Josh planned to propose at 4 PM, golden hour perfection.

The Moment
The light was soft, the air was calm, and the ocean did that cinematic sparkle thing you only get on the California coast. (Thanks, nature.) As they walked hand in hand along the shoreline, the waves rolled in, and that’s when Josh got down on one knee.

In his hand was a stunning oval ring from Shane Co., flanked by two small round stones on a classic gold band. A timeless, elegant, and full of meaning sentiment. It was everything Josh had hoped for, a heartfelt surprise in a place filled with love and memory.
As a result, Tasha’s reaction was exactly as he’d imagined: pure excitement, a few happy tears, and the kind of “is this real life?” joy that makes every second unforgettable.

A Celebration Full of Love (and Bubbles)
Of course, a “yes!” deserves a toast. They celebrated with their favorites! A bottle of champagne and a bold red cab, because why pick just one when life’s this good?
A Weekend Full of Joy
Their love story even has its own soundtrack! Think Tyler Childers vibes: soulful, grounded, and full of heart. As the waves kissed the shore, the whole moment felt like a love song, one they’ve been dancing to since day one.

The surprises didn’t stop there! Josh had one more up his sleeve! Both of their families were coming into town to celebrate. It would be the first time everyone visited Pacific Grove and Carmel, making the weekend even more special.
After the proposal, Josh and Tasha enjoyed dinner at Anton & Michel, laughing, reminiscing, and reliving the moment again (and again, and again as you do when you’re newly engaged).

They spent the weekend at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands, an oceanside escape with breathtaking views. The perfect place to unwind, pop more bubbly, and soak in their first weekend as fiancés.
Why You’ll Love an Asilomar Beach Proposal
If you’re dreaming of your own proposal, take a note from Josh and Tasha’s story. Asilomar Beach isn’t just scenic. It’s simply soulful. Truly, with its golden dunes, rugged rocks, and calm, romantic energy, it’s one of the most stunning proposal spots in Pacific Grove (and honestly, the entire Monterey Bay).

Whether it’s the symbolism of the sea, a family memory, or simply a love for the coast, Asilomar offers the perfect blend of beauty and meaning. For Josh and Tasha, it wasn’t just about a gorgeous backdrop. It was about honoring the past while stepping into their future.
As an Asilomar Beach proposal photographer, I can tell you, no two sessions are ever alike. The light, the tide, and the emotions all come together to tell a story that’s completely your own!
