Before their engagement photos along the Central Coast, there was an unforgettable proposal overlooking the Pacific.

Jake planned a surprise at Nepenthe, one of their favorite spots in Big Sur. Perched high above the coastline, Nepenthe offers sweeping views of the ocean meeting the mountains and is one of the most iconic destinations along Highway 1.

It was a beautiful day. They shared lunch together and stepped outside to take in the view.

While they were eating, Colleen noticed a Blue Jay nearby.

Blue Jays hold deep meaning for her. After her father passed away in 2021, she began asking for Blue Jays as a sign that he was watching over her. Seeing one always feels like a quiet reminder that he is present.

The Blue Jay lingered.

When they walked outside after lunch, it was still there.

Colleen began taking photos of the bird against the dramatic Big Sur backdrop. When she turned around, Jake was standing behind her with the ring in his hand.

And then he asked her for forever.
