As a Carmel Beach family photographer, I’m constantly reminded how deeply connected people feel to this breathtaking stretch of California coastline. The Zeller Family traveled all the way from Dallas, Texas, but for Amy and Andrew, this session wasn’t just about updating family portraits; it was about coming home.

California is where their love story began. They met here, spent several years living in Walnut Creek, and even got married in Carmel Valley. So when it came time for their new family photos, they knew there was no better place than the beach where it all started.

Amy and Andrew arrived with their three little ones, Sunny (6), Joey (4), and Leo (2), ready for a morning full of laughter and play. Racing through the sand, chasing waves, and finding seashells between giggles.

Meet the Zellers: Three Little Personalities, One Beautiful Family

Each of the Zeller kids brought their own spark to the session.

Sunny, at six, was sweet and thoughtful, the kind of big sister who listens, helps, and lights up the camera with her jack-o’-lantern smile. She brought such a calm, gentle presence to the session, setting the tone for her younger siblings.

Joey, at four, was the burst of energy that kept everyone laughing. Silly, spirited, and full of personality, she was always ready for the next adventure, whether it was running through the sand or showing off her biggest smile.

And then there was little Leo, at two, the family’s curious explorer. He loved discovering seashells, playing with his sisters, and taking in everything around him with wide-eyed wonder. He also enjoyed running with his sisters, especially when he thought it was his idea!

As a Carmel Beach family photographer, I love photographing children just as they are! Whether they wild, sweet, unpredictable, and or completely themselves they are always a joy to be around. It’s those moments that make family photography so meaningful.

Music, Magic, and Carmel Sunshine

To keep the energy light and joyful, we played a little Taylor Swift (a family favorite!) and chatted about animals like turtles, elephants, and everything in between. As the music played and the laughter grew, the kids began to relax and settle comfortably into the moment. Before long, those simple, playful touches helped everyone feel completely at ease and brought out the most genuine smiles and joyful giggles.

Moments like these always remind me that photography is about so much more than the pictures themselves. It’s about the experience, the shared laughter, the togetherness, and the memories made along the way. My goal as a photographer is to help families slow down, enjoy time with one another, and soak in the beauty that surrounds them here in Carmel.
