A Love Story Years in the Making

As a Carmel Coast engagement photographer, I get to witness love stories unfold in the most beautiful places and Vicky and Ivan’s is one that truly stands out.

College Days

Some couples lock eyes and know instantly. Others take a little longer, maybe two and a half years of sitting in the same college classes, before fate steps in.

Vicky and Ivan’s story falls into the latter category, but it was worth the wait! They both attended the University of the Pacific, sharing nearly identical class schedules.

First Impressions

Ivan remembers spotting Vicky in their Spring 2018 audit class! Which, let’s be honest, isn’t the most romantic setting for sparks to fly. Still, he carried a quiet crush through countless lectures on balance sheets and audit procedures.

When Vicky graduated a semester early, Ivan thought his chance was gone.

A Second Chance

Luckily, social media is sometimes the real MVP of love stories. A few months later, Ivan reconnected with Vicky online and convinced her to go on a date.

One dinner later, accounting lectures were a distant memory and romance was front and center. By June 2020, they were officially a couple, and two years later, here we are! Celebrating their story on the Carmel coast at the breathtaking Pebble Beach.

The Perfect Equation

Every couple has their rhythm, and Vicky and Ivan’s is all about balance. Both are accountants, but in very different ways.

Ivan dabbles in everything tax, audit, you name it. Vicky? She’s all about tax. Together, they make the perfect financial equation.

The Sweet and the Silly

When asked what he loves most, Ivan didn’t hesitate: “She accepts me for who I am, flaws and all. I can be every single version of myself with her, and she makes them all feel loved.”

But he also laughed while describing her goofy side. Vicky might seem serious at first glance, but once you really know her, she’s a clumsy, lovable dork. (His words, not mine!) Ivan insists her goofy moments are comedy gold.

It’s safe to say their love story has as much laughter as it does tenderness. As a Carmel Coast engagement photographer, those little in between moments of laughter are my favorite ones to capture.

Knowing She Was “The One”

For Ivan, realizing Vicky was the one came quickly and powerfully.

A big turning point came during one of his hardest times, the loss of his mom. Even though they weren’t especially close yet, Vicky was there. Her kindness and gentle heart left no doubt in his mind.

“That was who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with,” he said.

And just in case you’re wondering? Yes, Vicky definitely passed the “mom test,” even though Ivan’s mom wasn’t physically there. Sometimes love makes itself crystal clear in the quietest, hardest moments.

Simple Joys Together

Weekend Rituals

When they’re not busy crunching numbers, Vicky and Ivan enjoy the little things. Their weekends usually involve dinner and a movie. The kind of date night classic that never goes out of style!

They also adore hanging out with their dog, who may or may not believe he’s the star of the family. (We’ll let Vicky and Ivan break the news to him later.)

Drinks and Dancing

As for drinks, they’re not huge on alcohol, but champagne and sweet white wine are on the “yes” list. Ivan likes Arnold Palmers and Moscow Mules, while Vicky is all about a lemon drop. Honestly, they’ve got a whole mini cocktail menu covered between the two of them.

And if there’s music playing? Expect pop because nothing says love like dancing to Taylor Swift or Bruno Mars in your living room. Those carefree vibes made for the perfect inspiration during their Carmel Coast engagement photos.

The Proposal Plan | Sunset Dreams with a Carmel Coast Engagement Photographer

Ivan knew he wanted to propose shortly after moving in with Vicky at the start of the year. The proposal at Pebble Beach is exactly the kind of intimate moment that makes my work as a Carmel Coast engagement photographer so meaningful.

Financial timing delayed things, but the decision in his heart was already made. He chose a modest, round diamond ring from Blue Nile. A timeless and perfectly suited pick for Vicky’s modest style.

The plan? A surprise proposal at sunset on Pebble Beach. Ivan imagines Vicky will burst into tears the second she realizes what’s happening.

“She’ll be an emotional wreck,” he admitted with a grin.

But hey, isn’t that the dream? A little laughter, a lot of tears, and one very sparkly “yes.”

A First Beach Experience at Pebble Beach

Here’s the kicker, despite dating for over two years, Vicky and Ivan had never actually been to the beach together.

Between busy schedules and the lack of nearby coastlines, it just never happened. So when the idea of a beach session came up, Ivan knew it was the perfect chance.

Pebble Beach was the perfect pick! Dramatic cliffs, rolling waves, and just enough privacy to make it feel like their own little slice of paradise.

Not only did it give them a stunning backdrop, but it also became their very first beach memory together. Their Carmel Coast engagement photos captured that milestone beautifully.

A Weekend Getaway in Carmel

They stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn, making a weekend of it with their dog in tow. No over the top plans, no surprises (outside of a diamond ring, of course) just good food, quiet moments, and the joy of finally dipping their toes in the sand together.

The session itself was a dream! Vicky and Ivan laughed their way through every moment, from playful splashes at the shoreline to romantic kisses atop the rocks.

At one point, Ivan swept Vicky off her feet, literally, proving that accounting may be their day job, but romance is their true calling!

And then there’s the ring shot. Nestled in the sand, sparkling in the soft Pebble Beach light, it’s a perfect symbol of their story: modest, timeless, and chosen with love.

Vicky and Ivan’s Pebble Beach engagement session was more than just a photoshoot.

It was about creating memories of their first beach trip together, a weekend away with their pup, and a moment that celebrates not just their past but their future.

Their story reminds us that love doesn’t have to be flashy to be extraordinary. Sometimes it’s goofy, sometimes it’s tear-filled, and sometimes it’s as simple as dinner, a movie, and a dog at your side.

But when you add it all up, it’s the kind of love story worth celebrating and, of course, photographing.

As the sun sets over Pebble Beach, one thing is certain, this is just the beginning of a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and probably a few more clumsy, goofy moments from Vicky that Ivan will never stop cherishing.
