Pebble Beach Engagement | Christine & Carlos

Wide coastal portrait of Christine and Carlos overlooking crashing waves and rocky scenery in Pebble Beach

There is something incredibly special about photographing a relationship that has already grown through years of everyday life together. Christine and Carlos have been together for seven and a half years, and their Pebble Beach couples photography session felt like such a beautiful reflection of the relationship they have built. Comfortable, playful, affectionate, and completely at ease with one another.

With the rugged Pebble Beach coastline behind them, we spent our time creating portraits that felt romantic and timeless while still leaving plenty of room for their personalities to come through. The result was exactly what I love about photographing couples along the Monterey Peninsula. Beautiful scenery certainly helps, but the real magic always comes from the connection between two people.

A Love Story That Started With Karaoke

Christine and Carlos first met through mutual friends. One night, their group went out for karaoke, and somewhere between the music and spending time together, the two of them started getting to know each other.

Christine remembers knowing pretty early that there was something different about Carlos. She simply wanted to spend all of her time with him. Seven and a half years later, that feeling has turned into the kind of relationship where they can completely be themselves around each other.

One of the things Christine loves most about Carlos is his silly side. She also describes him as incredibly giving with an amazing heart. Those little pieces of their relationship came through so naturally during their session. There were the romantic portraits, of course, but there were also plenty of smiles, laughter, and those quieter moments where they simply settled into being together.

Pebble Beach Couples Photography Along the Coast

Pebble Beach gave us such a beautiful setting for this session.

The dramatic rocks, crashing Pacific waves, coastal greenery, and soft sky created a backdrop that felt elevated without taking attention away from Christine and Carlos. On an overcast coastal day like this one, the colors become especially soft and beautiful.

I also loved their wardrobe choices for the location. Christine wore a soft neutral dress while Carlos chose an earthy green sweater with neutral pants. Their colors complemented the natural landscape instead of competing with it, which gave the entire gallery a really timeless feel.

For anyone planning Pebble Beach couples photography, this is one of the reasons I recommend thinking about your wardrobe in relation to the landscape. Neutrals, soft blues, greens, creams, and other natural tones tend to photograph beautifully here.

Christine and Carlos had envisioned light neutral colors for their session from the beginning, so everything came together seamlessly.

Keeping Their Portraits Classic and Playful

When I asked Christine how she wanted their images to feel, she described a combination I love: classic and goofy.

That really is the perfect balance for a couples session.

You want the photographs that feel polished enough to frame and keep for decades, but you also want the images that immediately remind you what being together actually feels like.

So we did both.

We created romantic portraits overlooking the Pacific, then let them walk together and interact naturally. They held hands, wrapped their arms around each other, laughed, kissed, and explored the coastline.

Christine loves soft, gentle touches and photographs of couples holding hands, so those details became a beautiful part of their gallery.

Those quieter photographs are often some of my favorites because affection does not always have to be a grand gesture. Sometimes it is a hand around a waist, fingers intertwined, or the way someone instinctively leans closer to the person they love.

Making Time for Each Other

Quality time is especially important to Christine and Carlos.

With busy schedules, they intentionally make time to be together. On their days off, that might mean golfing, watching movies, or finding somewhere new to eat.

I love that their session became another version of that.

A portrait session does not have to feel like standing in front of a camera for an hour. Instead, I want it to feel like an experience together. We give enough direction to make sure the light, movement, and composition are beautiful, but there is also room to walk, talk, laugh, and enjoy where you are.

That approach was perfect for these two because their comfort around one another did so much of the work for us.

Why Pebble Beach Is Perfect for Couples Photography

There are very few places that offer the variety we have here on the Monterey Peninsula, and Pebble Beach is one of my favorites.

Within one session, we can incorporate rocky coastline, ocean views, sandy paths, native coastal plants, and completely different perspectives of the Pacific. Even when the skies are cloudy, the landscape has so much texture and movement.

The softer coastal light also lends itself beautifully to romantic portraiture. Instead of needing a bright sunny day for beautiful photographs, fog and cloud cover can create some of the dreamiest conditions.

As local photographers, we are also able to plan around the characteristics that can change a session completely, including light, weather, tides, and the particular location along the coast.

For Christine and Carlos, the dramatic waves and muted sky gave their gallery an almost cinematic feeling while still keeping the photographs soft and timeless.

A Little Pebble Beach Date Inspiration

If you are turning your own portrait session into a weekend away, Pebble Beach and Carmel make it very easy to build an entire date around your photos.

Christine and Carlos stayed at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, which puts you right in the heart of Pebble Beach and makes it easy to enjoy the area before or after your session.

Since these two also love golfing and trying new places to eat, Pebble Beach feels especially fitting for them. You could spend part of the day golfing, explore 17 Mile Drive, then head into Carmel by the Sea for dinner after your photographs.

If you want to stay closer to Pebble Beach, The Bench is another beautiful option for a meal with views over the 18th hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

It is one of the things I love most about photographing couples here. The session can become one part of a much bigger experience on the California coast.

Photographs Made to Be Kept

Christine and Carlos planned to use some of their portraits for save the dates and were also considering an album for the finished images.

That makes these photographs feel even more meaningful.

Digital galleries are wonderful for sharing, but there is something completely different about seeing your photographs in print. An album gives the entire session a place to live together as a story. Years from now, they will be able to turn those pages and remember not only what Pebble Beach looked like that day, but also what this season of their relationship felt like.

And that is always the goal.

Planning Your Pebble Beach Couples Photography Session

Whether you are celebrating an engagement, an anniversary, a trip to Carmel, or simply want photographs of the two of you together, you do not need a huge milestone to make a portrait session meaningful.

Christine and Carlos’s session is such a perfect example of that.

Seven and a half years of love, inside jokes, busy schedules, golf days, movie nights, new restaurants, and choosing to continue making time for each other deserved to be documented.

Pebble Beach simply gave us a beautiful place to tell that story.
