Northern California and especially Big Sur has every type of backdrop for portraits. We have coastal hills, beautiful wildflowers, forests, and of course, the Pacific Ocean. When Steve and Caitlin reached out to me about photographing their Big Sur portraits in May, I was so excited! They are both from Philidephia (my hometown!) and wanted to vacation in Big Sur. Using my knowledge as a local Big Sur photographer, I made sure to show them my most exclusive spots.
May is a beautiful time to photograph Big Sur portraits because of all the wildflowers! There’s a good chance of sunshine, great weather, and then pockets of these bright yellow wildflowers that really make everything pop. I am so glad that I was able to capture Steve and Caitlin’s Big Sur portrait experience with these wildflowers!
We started on the cliffs with the ocean in the background before I showed them the way towards the secret and exclusive beaches. These are spots only locals know about! (This is why I really push for hiring a local Big Sur photographer!) We were sure to capture two different looks: casual and formal, and I love how they turned out! They were so darling.
One of my portrait photography tips is having my couples choose two different looks with different locations. This way, they can get the most variety out of their pictures. Big Sur is the perfect place for couples portraits! It’s also advised to go with a local photographer (like me!) because they will know all of the difficult spots to get to!
I would love to photograph your next Big Sur portraits! Contact me here.
