Small Business Spotlight: Glamology

Aime Gruber from Glamology Beauty Lounge and I met at a Tuesdays Together a couple of years ago! We try to work together multiple times during the year, but since we’ve both grown in our businesses it gets tricky! We host boudoir mini pop-up sessions together and I am a huge fan of her work. Read through to learn about Aime…

How did you get started? Tell me about Glamology.

I’ve been styling since I got my license but wasn’t fully committed until 2005. I had random jobs that I jumped into, but I always had a passion for styling and makeup. Three years ago I went full time into doing hair since I always had an idea for a mobile salon and made the jump!

Tell me about your passion. What do you love about HMU?

I love it because I’m constantly meeting new people and new faces and hearing people’s life stories. It’s not only how they met but I get a personal interaction too. I really get to make friends with my clients! My clients come from all over the world.

I enjoy making people feel good about themselves. The moment when they see the completed look is when they are smiling the biggest. I love that moment.

That’s wonderful! When did you start doing makeup in addition to hair?

I started with just doing hair initially, but then I connected with a local photographer and she started requesting me to do makeup. It opened up the door for me to do hair and makeup together on a model and see how it looked on camera. It was a constant learning lesson: should I contour more? Accentuate the cheeks or eyes? I trained myself to see what the camera was seeing.

That’s so helpful, too. What is the Glamology team like?

Glamology just opened up the salon in January 2019. I was initially alone but then started finding more makeup artists that assist me. Over the years, it began to be busier so I began a mobile salon. Each of the girls has their specialty: color, blowouts, makeup, etc. We cater towards hair and makeup for special events and weddings. I built the group based on the large amount of inquiries I started getting.

And the Glamology Mobile?

I noticed after going to people’s houses and doing hair and makeup in an environment where people were walking in and out, sleeping everywhere that it was kind of a stressful environment! I decided to create the mobile salon. It’s a 20 ft. trailer similar to my shop that we take on location to people that don’t have a good place to get ready. It’s a stress-free environment separate from the chaos from the family members staying over at the house. We eliminate the stress and bring a peaceful environment.

So cute and so cool. Lastly, what’s some advice you’d give a new bride?

Feeling indecisive? Narrow down 5 pictures that you really want to draw inspiration from. I know you can bring 50 different pictures, but 5 of a combination of hair and makeup really narrows the vision of what to draw from to make your wedding look.

Thank you so much, Aime! I would love to photograph and interview you if you’re a small business. Please reach out here.
