A surprise proposal in Big Sur is my bread and butter as a local Big Sur photographer. What’s not to love about this coastal beauty? Especially at sunset! It’s the perfect spot to get down on one knee and pop that question, which is exactly Mehrad did for his fiancée, Gaby! This lovely couple met through one of Mehrad’s classmates in professional school. Fast forward over four years and now they’re engaged!

How It All Started

“It took a while when we first met. We both weren’t totally looking for a relationship at the very beginning. We are both very different, and compliment each other perfectly at the same time. She has the kindest, sweetest soul of anyone I have ever met. It is something that shines through from the moment you meet her. Since we are both very busy with our jobs, we always look forward to when we can travel next. I’m pretty sure she caught on to a few times when I was going to propose on some big trip we’ve taken together…

Gaby is a fashionista. She’s always dressed like she came out of a photo shoot! The way I have it in my mind now, we will take a rental car to Ventana, Big Sur to drop off our car and check in to our hotel. Once we are settled in, we would take the car down to the area Amanda mentioned, and eventually make our way to the spot for the surprisal proposal. Afterwards, we would have a little area to settle in to with a picnic blanket to watch the sunset and get some more pictures.” – Mehrad & His Master Plan

Ventana is easily one of my favorite venues in the area as a local Big Sur photographer- definitely in my top 5! (I’ll have a top-five list coming soon for my favorite photography spots in the area. Kristin’s Magic Hour: The Surprise Proposal In Big Sur

Mehrad hired one of my dear associate photographers, Kristin, and she whipped up the perfect little candlelit scene on the cliffs for their surprise proposal in Big Sur! Can you think of a more darling scene? I sure can’t! Mehrad already loves taking videos of Gaby and him exploring together which is just SO cool already, right? So he convinced her to follow him up to a good lookout spot so they could do “some video”. Little did she know that there was a sweet rose petal setup waiting for her!
